Scott Wells - Starting Center, Gifted Poet

With the bye week here we at C&P.com thought it best to try to get to know the boys on our favorite team a little better. Today we begin with a small sample of poetry from Scott Wells. Because really, would you rather spend two weeks thinking about the fumble to end the Rams game? If nothing else you can slam Scott's obvious inability to adequately use iambic pentameter.

A Sampling of Haiku

I must know my zone,
that is not my zone Colledge,
you should have blocked him.

Frank Winters I'm not,
Noah Herron a hundred
in one game? I rock.

And now a work in progress. Watch the art happen people! It's happening right now!

The Legend Behind Me

I crouch and I gaze
like a gazelle protecting it's young.
My life's meaning sits motionless below me.
The lions stare intently at the easy prey.

I am not enough.
It hurts to admit it but it's true.
I have others to help me, but still we need more.
We need a legend. A legend behind me.

His hands are rough yet subtle.
His demeanor easy yet strong.
His voice alone terrifies the harriers
Blocking our road.

I must protect this legend.
He will do the rest.
And if I am lucky
and proud of heart
and stout of purpose
and reasonably talented
I shall someday be able to take a look myself
at this legend, this legend behind me.

Sometimes the legend complains
about the view.
It is all I have to offer.
I am not Halle Berry.

I am not Halle Berry.

Yikes !! Actually "Scott" isn't the ONLY guy to write football poems...

WHILE THE 'BOOS' CAME RAINING DOWN FROM VIKINGS FANS
THE LIONS SEEMED TO HAVE IT ALL GOING THEIR WAY
UNTIL THE MAGIC THAT HAPPENS IN THE METRODOME
SUDDENLY APPEARED TAKING DETROIT'S CHANCES AWAY

THE VIKING OFFENSE FINALLY MANAGED TO RUN THE BALL
BUT THE PASSING GAME WASN'T ALL THAT GREAT
AND IT LOOKED LIKE THE LACK OF POINT PRODUCTION
WOULD BE WHAT FINALLY SEALED THEIR FATE

BUT THEN SOMEHOW THE 'D' STEPPED UP
AND SCORED TWICE IN THE FINAL MINUTES
IT'S GOOD THEY DID BECAUSE 'TIL THE END
THE DETROIT LIONS WERE RIGHT THERE IN IT

THERE'S A 'BERMUDA TRIANGLE' SORT OF VORTEX
IN THAT DOME INHABITED BY THE VIKINGS
AND WHILE NO ONE ELSE CAN SEEM TO OVERCOME IT
IT MAKES GAMES TURN OUT TO MINNESOTA'S LIKING

NOW IT'S OFF FOR A BYE WEEK ADVENTURE
AND ZYGI'S CONDUCT POLICY MAY WELL BE TESTED
NO ONE AT WINTER PARK WILL BREATHE EASY
UNTIL THE WEEK OFF IS OVER-WITH NO ONE ARRESTED
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FROM THE JAWS OF AT LEAST A TIED UP SCORE
THE PACKERS AGAIN MANAGED TO SNATCH DEFEAT
AS THE PACKERS' PASS PROCTECTION FAILED BRETT FAVRE
AND THE BALL WOUND UP ROLLING ON THE GROUND
THE RAMS RECOVERED AND THAT WAS IT
ANOTHER PACKER COMBACK BID WAS FOILED
AND A SHAME IT WAS FOR THE GREEN BAY TEAM
HAD WORKED TOO HARD TO HAVE THE OUTCOME SPOILED
THE OFFENSE MANAGED TO RUN PRETTY WELL
WITH ANOTHER FILL-IN TAKING UP THE LOAD
BUT IT'S NOT ENOUGH TO MERELY MOVE THE BALL
AS THE FINAL SCOREBOARD CLEARLY SHOWED
THE DEFENSE PLAYED PRETTY WELL IN SPOTS SUNDAY
AND HAD SOME CHANCES TO TURN AROUND THIS GAME
BUT CHARLES WOODSON DROPPED AN INTERCEPTION
AND EVEN AL HARRIS DID THE SAME
IT'S BEEN LIKE THAT THIS FOOTBALL SEASON
AS THE PACKERS HAVE YET TO FIND THEIR STRIDE
MIKE MCCARTHY STILL HASN'T FOUND THE FORMULA FOR WINNING
DESPITE ALL THE DIFFERENT THINGS HE'S TRIED
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

THE PACKERS WILL TRY DURING THIS WEEK OFF
TO COME UP WITH A PLAN THAT WILL NOT FAIL
WHILE THE VIKINGS' COACHES AND PLAYERS
DO THEIR BEST TO STAY OUT OF JAIL....
